The foreclosure crisis sent new housing starts plummeting — and the apartment industry booming. Climate change threatens to alter entire coastlines — or at least to create new design and insurance challenges. Now, an entire generation of Americans may have given up on homeownership.

Three years later, nuns’ zoning application still on the run

It has taken three years, but the final land development application of Medical Mission Sisters has finally been approved by the Abington Code Enforcement and Land Development Committee. The property spans parts of both Abington and Philadelphia and the sisters will be constructing 61 new apartment units.

May be worth it to hire an attorney before buying a home in Pennsylvania

A Census Bureau report released on Tuesday revealed that the national rate of homeownership has fallen to its lowest level in 15 years, at 65.4 percent. An increase of renting accompanies the decrease, to the point where the apartment-vacancy rate was 8.8 percent in the first quarter of 2012.

Some Philadelphia builders would like to see increase of modular construction

Our Philadelphia readers may have heard of modular home construction, otherwise known sectional prefabricated homes. These homes are constructed from multiple modules or sections built in a remote facility and delivered to the building site. Individual modules can be as much as 90 percent complete when they are shipped from factor to building sites, including walls flooring, ceilings, stairs and finishes.

Pennsylvania town rejects zoning change

Zoning, or how a property is zoned, can have a tremendous impact on the market value of a piece of Pennsylvania real estate. Broadly, zoning is the way governments regulate the way land can be used. Common zoning classifications of land include commercial, residential and industrial.
